Fun fact: both of my parents were software engineers for many years, although at the time, they were called ‘programmers’. In the early days, they wrote code to launch Saturn 5 rockets into orbit, propelling men to the moon. Later, they coded trajectories for defensive military satellites.
Naturally, we were early adopters of the home computer. Our first was a Radio Shack TRS-80 Model I, and all the software — including the OS — was run from a cassette tape drive.
Ironically, when we brought it to school for show-and-tell, it failed to impress most of my third-grade classmates. They just didn’t understand why anyone would want one.

What do you think is the next big idea?
